The University for Foreigners of Siena, particularly skilled on the teaching of Italian Language, established the educational rules of the following courses of study (three-year degree – 1st level):
- “Italian language and culture”
- “Linguistic and cultural mediation”
Both of the course of study include a graduation’s
curriculum on “Italian Sign Language”.
In particular:
- The graduation on “Italian language and culture” includes the “Teaching of the Italian Sign Language” curriculum
- The graduation on “Linguistic and cultural mediation” includes the “Linguistic and cultural mediation between verbal language and sign language” curriculum.
The courses will start from the Academic year 2008/2009 (September 2008).
For the next Academic Year hearing students will be involved and, from the successive Academic Year also deaf students will be involved (this is for organize all the teaching aids adapted to deaf students).
Both of those graduation courses about Italian Sign Language will be administrated by the University for Foreigners of Siena with the full collaboration of the State Institute of the Deaf, thanks to a convention stipulated between the two institutions that includes the promotion and improvement of studies, researches and training activities, in the field of Sign Language and the recognition of mental activities for the issue of qualifications.
So, people who have already obtained the degree of Italian Sign Language (1st, 2nd and 3rd level)
from the State Institute of the Deaf or who are going to apply for attending the next courses of the Institute (the registrations are already open) who are will be asking to register at University, for obtaining of one of the two graduation courses about Sign Language,
will have on abbreviated path of graduation because of the addition of their educational path.
The students who already obtained the certificate of 3rd level from the State Institute of the Deaf will have 60 credits, like a year of the path of graduation. The students who obtained the recognition of 1st or 2nd level of LIS will have a number of credits in preparation with the amount of hours done.
Lessons for both of the graduation courses of the University for Foreigners of Siena
will be also at the State Institute of the Deaf (e-learning, videoconferences, …) in via Nomentana, 56.
